CCNY men’s basketball falls to UMass Boston after losing early lead

The City College of New York men’s basketball team lost to UMass Boston 80–74 on Saturday at Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Beavers started the game strongly, leading by as many as 21 points in the first half and entering halftime with a 37–33 advantage. During the opening period, CCNY shot 56.5 percent from the field and made seven three-pointers.

UMass Boston responded in the second half, outscoring CCNY 47–37. The Beacons capitalized on offensive rebounds and second-chance points, finishing with 20 second-chance points and dominating the boards late in the game.

Freshman Olabanjo Aborisade and senior Justin Morety led CCNY with 17 points each. Aborisade made eight of his twelve shots from the field, while Morety contributed five assists and drew several fouls driving to the basket. Abdias Carcamo added 14 points and seven assists for CCNY, and Michael Bowman scored ten points on four-of-five shooting. Senior Kayson Dinkins contributed nine points, all from three-point range.

Cameron Perkins led UMass Boston with a game-high 23 points and six rebounds. Raphel Laurent added a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds.

Despite making over half their shots from both the field (55.3 percent) and three-point range (47.8 percent), CCNY struggled with turnovers and rebounding in the second half, which allowed UMass Boston to take control of the game.

CCNY will next compete at the Franklin and Marshall College Invitational in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on December 29-30.
