CCNY edges John Jay, 4–3, in CUNYAC road victory

The City College of New York baseball team defeated John Jay by a score of 4–3 on Apr. 21, improving its overall record to 12–15 and moving to 5–2 in conference play.

This result is important as it keeps CCNY competitive within the City University of New York Athletic Conference standings.

John Jay took an early lead with an RBI triple from Sebastian Sanchez in the first inning. CCNY responded in the fifth inning by scoring two unearned runs, taking advantage of defensive errors and a wild pitch. The Beavers extended their lead to 3–1 in the sixth when Gerard Molinaro scored on another error. John Jay tied the game at three apiece in the seventh after drawing consecutive bases-loaded walks.

In the eighth inning, Rich Cirigliano hit an RBI double that brought home Erik Rank, putting CCNY ahead for good. Samuel Puttock secured the win for CCNY by pitching one and one-third scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Starting pitcher Tristan Bausenwein threw six innings and struck out five batters while allowing three runs.

Cirigliano led CCNY offensively with a double and an RBI. Jake Brenner, Tyler Persampire, and Jason Roser each added a hit for the Beavers. Despite being out-hit five to four, CCNY capitalized on five walks and two errors committed by John Jay to secure their victory.

CCNY will continue its conference schedule with its next matchup.
