Bryce Hopkins, a graduate student at St. John’s, has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week following two consecutive double-double performances that contributed to victories for the No. 17/16 Red Storm last week.
This marks the third time in his career that Hopkins has received this honor and his first since 2023.
Hopkins, who is from Oak Park, Illinois, averaged 19 points and 10 rebounds per game over the two games. He shot 58.3 percent from the field (14-24), made 90 percent of his free throws (9-10), and averaged 1.5 steals per game. These back-to-back double-doubles were his first since December 2022 during his sophomore year at Providence.
He has played a key role in St. John’s current 13-game winning streak, which is the third longest active unbeaten run in NCAA Division I basketball. Over these games, he has averaged 15 points and 7.2 rebounds per contest.
On Wednesday, Hopkins recorded his first double-double of the season with 23 points and matched a season-high with 10 rebounds in a win against Marquette, shooting six-for-seven from the free throw line.
On Saturday, he followed up with another double-double—15 points and 10 rebounds—in an 81-52 victory over Creighton at Madison Square Garden. He also added two steals while making all three free throw attempts and converting six out of ten shots from the field.
After playing in 27 games this season, Hopkins is averaging 14 points and 6.2 rebounds per game; both statistics are among the top eleven in the BIG EAST Conference standings. He ranks seventh in made free throws within the conference with a total of 105.
St. John’s Red Storm Men’s Basketball participates in the Big East Conference and plays its home games in Queens, New York (official website). The team has claimed six Big East Tournament championships and two NIT titles (official website).
