Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district, shared messages on social media on March 8 and 9, 2026, expressing gratitude to attendees of a community event celebrating Black history and culture.
On March 8, Espaillat posted: “Thank you to all who came out to celebrate Black history, culture, and excellence this afternoon! This is what community is about.” He also shared a link in a subsequent post: “https://t.co/4i1ws5kJ5S”.
Continuing his outreach in Spanish on March 9, Espaillat wrote: “¡Gracias a todos los que vinieron a celebrar la historia, la cultura y la excelencia de la comunidad afroamericana esta tarde! De esto se trata la comunidad.”
Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Charles Rangel. He previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954, Espaillat resides in Manhattan and graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York with a BA in 1978.
