Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district, marked the anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting by reiterating his commitment to gun reform in a series of posts on February 14, 2026.
On the eighth anniversary of the Parkland tragedy, Espaillat wrote, “Gun violence is a national epidemic, and we must never forget the victims of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in #Parkland, Florida. I remain committed in my fight for gun reform to protect families and communities from such tragedies. We need reform now.” (February 14, 2026).
Later that day, he addressed constituents in both English and Spanish. He posted a Valentine’s Day greeting: “¡Feliz DÃa de San ValentÃn a todos los que están celebrando en el NY-13!” (February 14, 2026). Shortly after, he reiterated his stance on gun violence in Spanish: “La violencia con armas de fuego es una epidemia nacional, y nunca debemos olvidar a las vÃctimas de la escuela secundaria Marjory Stoneman Douglas en #Parkland, Florida. Sigo comprometido con mi lucha por la reforma al control de armas para proteger a las familias y comunidades” (February 14, 2026).
Espaillat has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 13th District since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.
