Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, recently shared a series of posts on social media reflecting on community remembrance, local engagement, and personal milestones within his constituency.
This message commemorated the victims of the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, which remains one of the deadliest attacks targeting Latinos in recent U.S. history.
The following day, August 4, Espaillat highlighted his ongoing connection to his district by posting: “One of my favorite things about the district work period is setting up shop in different neighborhoods across the district, especially at our incredible small businesses. Truly the best city in the nation. Stay cool, NYC https://t.co/EATdRB2WrD” The congressman emphasized his appreciation for New York City’s neighborhoods and small businesses during legislative recess periods.
Later that same day, Espaillat recognized a constituent’s milestone birthday with another post: “Proud to recognize my constituent, Ms. Cora Gilmore! May your 100th birthday be filled with peace, love, and happiness, and may you find yourself surrounded by an abundance of friends, family, and loved ones on your special day.”
Espaillat has served as New York’s 13th District representative since succeeding Charles Rangel in 2017. Before joining Congress he was active in state politics as a member of both the New York State Assembly (1997-2010) and Senate (2011-2016). Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68,[source] Espaillat is also an alumnus of Queens College.[source]
