Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district, posted a series of messages on July 30, 2025, highlighting the start of the Congressional App Challenge and emphasizing congressional oversight responsibilities regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In his first post at 15:54 UTC, Espaillat announced the launch of a technology competition for students in his district: “#NY13: ¡Llamamos a todos los programadores! Hoy comienza oficialmente la 10ma edición del Desafío de Aplicaciones del Congreso. Si eres estudiante y te interesa el diseño de app, ¡la inscripción ya está abierta! Cualquier proyecto de codificación hecho entre el 24 de octubre”.

Later that day, Espaillat addressed congressional oversight duties related to ICE. At 17:43 UTC he stated: “Congressional oversight of ICE is not just our duty, it’s our right. This administration must be held accountable.”

He reiterated this message in Spanish at 18:51 UTC with the post: “La supervisión del Congreso sobre ICE no es solo nuestro deber, sino nuestro derecho. Esta administración debe rendir cuentas.”

Espaillat has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 13th District since 2017 after succeeding Charles Rangel. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and served in the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. He was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently resides in Manhattan. Espaillat graduated from Queens College, City University of New York in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree.
