Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, used his Twitter account to highlight the significance of Medicaid and Medicare on their 60th anniversary and express concerns about proposed health care legislation. Espaillat, who was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently resides in Manhattan, also took the opportunity to recognize interns working in his district offices.
On July 30, 2025, Espaillat wrote: “For 60 years, Medicaid and Medicare have been vital lifelines to help Americans in every zip code access high-quality, affordable health care.
However, Trump’s Big Ugly Bill will cause more than 15 million people to lose their health care and make health care costs skyrocket for https://t.co/YF8QMhJjVU“.
Later that day, he posted a similar message in Spanish: “Durante 60 años, Medicaid y Medicare han sido recursos vitales para que los estadounidenses de todos los códigos postales accedan a una atención médica asequible y de alta calidad.
Sin embargo, la Ley Grande y Fea de Trump provocará que más de 15 millones de personas pierdan su” (July 30, 2025).
On July 31, Espaillat acknowledged National Intern Day by expressing appreciation for his interns: “This #NationalInternDay, I’m proud to recognize the talented interns in my district offices. Their drive, professionalism, and fresh perspective are invaluable to our work.

Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District since replacing Charles Rangel in Congress in 2017. Before serving at the federal level, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and served in the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. He graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.
