Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, marked several significant occasions in a series of posts on his social media account between December 14 and December 15, 2025.

On December 14, Espaillat recognized the beginning of Hanukkah, writing: “Esta noche marca la primera noche de Janucá. Que estas próximas ocho noches estén llenas de paz, luz y alegría. ¡Jag Sameaj!” (December 14, 2025).

Later that day, he commemorated the anniversary of the Sandy Hook school shooting with a post stating: “Today, we pause to remember the 20 students and six educators who lost their lives Dec. 14, 2012, and vow to never forget the tragedy of the Sandy Hook school shooting.

May the memories of their lives reaffirm our fight to end gun violence now and the destruction left behind in” (December 14, 2025).

On December 15, Espaillat observed Bill of Rights Day by posting: “Today we celebrate the Bill of Rights, which guarantees many of our rights as Americans. Now more than ever, we must uphold our shared values and work together to protect the rights and freedoms that define our democracy.” (December 15, 2025).

Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since succeeding Charles Rangel in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both chambers of New York’s state legislature—the Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College at City University of New York with a BA in 1978.
