U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat, who represents New York’s 13th district, highlighted student activism and local infrastructure victories in a series of posts on April 16, 2026.

Espaillat first noted the impact of youth engagement at PS 171, stating on his official account: “Student-led activism. That’s how PS 171 received $500,000 in community project funds, and I was proud to join them in celebrating their accomplishments.” (April 16, 2026). He also shared a similar message in Spanish: “Activismo liderado por estudiantes. Así fue como la escuela PS 171 recibió $500,000 dólares en fondos para proyectos comunitarios, y me enorgulleció unirme a ellos para celebrar sus logros.” (April 16, 2026).

Later that day, Espaillat commented on the progress of the Second Avenue Subway project: “This is a victory for Harlem and El Barrio as the Trump Administration withdraws all obstacles and lawsuits against the Second Avenue Subway. We will not be intimidated by Donald — or slap his name on to projects and buildings under ransom — and today’s victory furthers our” (April 16, 2026).

Adriano Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Charles Rangel. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in both the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954, Espaillat currently resides in Manhattan. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queens College at City University of New York in 1978.
