Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district and a longtime advocate for the Dominican community, recently shared updates on social media celebrating cultural milestones and heritage events.
On September 7, 2025, Espaillat announced the designation of a Harlem landmark as a historic site: “Harlem, lo logramos. El Parque Holcombe Rucker es oficialmente un sitio histórico.”
The following day, he posted about his participation in an event honoring Dominican culture in Paterson: “Had a wonderful time in Paterson today celebrating Dominican heritage, culture, and community. Grateful to stand alongside neighbors and friends to honor the significant contributions of the Dominican diaspora to our nation.” He reiterated this sentiment in Spanish later that day: “Pasé un momento maravilloso en Paterson celebrando la herencia, la cultura y la comunidad dominicana. Agradecido de estar junto a vecinos y amigos para honrar las importantes contribuciones de la diáspora dominicana a nuestra nación.”
Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Charles Rangel. Prior to his current role, he served in both the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan, Espaillat is recognized as one of the most prominent Dominican-American figures in U.S. politics. He graduated from Queens College at City University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
