Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, shared updates on public funding, defense spending, and healthcare leadership through a series of posts on March 11, 2026.
In his first message, Espaillat wrote: “¡Estoy deseando ver el impacto de los $14 millones de dĂłlares de fondos pĂşblicos que devolvimos a la ciudad!” (March 11, 2026).
Later that day, he commented on federal defense spending: “Pete Hegseth (the former Fox News host turned Secretary of Defense) spent 93 billion taxpayer dollars in one month. $93 BILLION. Republicans in Congress ensured that people would lose access to healthcare so that Hegseth could LARP a wartime General and blow through your tax” (March 11, 2026).
Espaillat also recognized the work of Cristina Contreras during Women’s History Month: “This Women’s History Month, I’m proud to highlight Cristina Contreras, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. A dedicated healthcare leader, Cristina is working to strengthen public health systems, modernize hospital operations, and expand access to quality care for underserved” (March 11, 2026).
Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. He previously served in both the New York State Assembly and Senate from 1997 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York with a BA in 1978.
