Adriano Espaillat, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, has used his social media platform to criticize former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party over recent government shutdowns and health care issues.
On November 4, 2025, Espaillat posted: “Trump ha presidido el cierre de gobierno más largo de la historia de Estados Unidos. Y está a punto de repetirlo. Parece ser un denominador común.”
Later that day, he continued his criticism in English, writing: “The Republican health care crisis is raising costs and the Republican shutdown is causing pain across America. Espaillat has been an active political figure for decades, previously serving in the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and in the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016 before joining Congress in 2017. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and now residing in Manhattan, Espaillat holds a BA from Queens College of the City University of New York.
