Adriano Espaillat, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 13th district, recently took to social media to express his disapproval of actions taken by the Trump Administration. On June 17, 2025, Espaillat criticized the administration for what he perceives as a failure to uphold fundamental rights.

In a tweet posted at 21:05 UTC, Espaillat stated, “The Trump Administration has once again failed to uphold the basic fundamental rights of our nation. This is not a dictatorship — including public officials like NYC Comptroller Brad Lander and others for asking questions is outrageous and unacceptable.”

Later that day, at 21:22 UTC, he reiterated his sentiments in Spanish.

At 23:03 UTC on the same day, Espaillat repeated his original statement about the Trump Administration’s actions being unacceptable and outrageous. The tweet read, “The Trump Administration has once again failed to uphold the basic fundamental rights of our nation. This is not a dictatorship — including public officials like NYC Comptroller Brad Lander and others for asking questions is outrageous and unacceptable.”

Adriano Espaillat has been serving in Congress since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. Before this role, he was part of the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and served in the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954, he currently resides in Manhattan.
