Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, addressed several issues in a series of posts on October 3, 2025. In his statements, he criticized the Trump administration’s response to the recent government shutdown and reiterated his commitment to local projects and environmental justice.
Later that day, he commented on social media discourse surrounding the shutdown, stating: “Americans can see through the lies and misinformation that the GOP is flooding social media with. No matter how many AI videos they make or lies they tell, Americans will know the truth: this is their shutdown.” (October 3, 2025).
Espaillat also expressed gratitude for community involvement in environmental initiatives. He posted: “Thank you to everyone who joined today’s 4th annual environmental justice tour. I’m committed to continuing our collective efforts to ensure support of environmental justice projects across our community.” (October 3, 2025).
Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in both the New York State Assembly and Senate from 1997 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954, Espaillat currently resides in Manhattan and holds a BA from Queens College, City University of New York.
