Adriano Espaillat, currently serving in the U.S. Congress as the representative for New York’s 13th district, has been an active voice on several political matters. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Espaillat has a long history of public service, having previously served in the New York State Assembly and Senate before taking office in Congress in 2017.

On April 1, 2025, Adriano Espaillat addressed the issue of generalizations and stereotypes against Venezuelans seeking asylum.

The following day, April 2, 2025, Espaillat criticized the current administration’s trade measures, notably the tariffs introduced under the previous Trump administration. He tweeted in English, “Trump’s tariffs are reckless. While the White House wants to call today Liberation Day, it’s really Liability Day, because ultimately the American people will bear the burden of these poor policies.”

In a tweet in Spanish on the same day, Espaillat reiterated his disapproval of the tariffs.
