Adriano Espaillat, a member of the U.S. Congress representing New York’s 13th district, has recently voiced his concerns regarding healthcare coverage for his constituents. On July 5, 2025, he expressed discontent through a series of tweets about recent legislative developments affecting Medicaid recipients in his district.

In a tweet posted on July 5 at 02:00 UTC, Espaillat highlighted the plight of nearly half a million people in his district who rely on Medicaid. He stated that instead of celebrating Independence Day peacefully, these individuals are anxious about their healthcare coverage. He concluded by calling this situation “a betrayal.” The original post can be viewed here.

Later that day, at 15:02 UTC, Espaillat criticized a new bill as “un duro golpe para el pueblo estadounidense” (a hard blow for the American people). He also condemned the President’s decision to sign it on the anniversary of the United States’ founding as audacious and shameful. This statement is available here.

Shortly after, at 15:03 UTC, he reiterated his earlier point in Spanish regarding the Medicaid issue faced by his constituents. Again emphasizing that instead of enjoying July Fourth festivities, they are preoccupied with concerns over their medical coverage—a sentiment he described as “una traición” (a betrayal). The tweet can be accessed here.

Adriano Espaillat has been serving in Congress since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017 and represents New York’s 13th District. Prior to this role, he served in both the New York State Assembly and Senate from 1997 to 2016.
