He shared his thoughts and prayers for the families affected by the incident and expressed gratitude towards emergency personnel and first responders for their swift response.
On January 30, 2025, Espaillat posted on social media: “I am closely monitoring the mid-air collision that occurred at DCA and praying for the families of the passengers. We are grateful for our emergency personnel and first responders who are responding swiftly to this horrific incident.”
Later that day, he reiterated his sentiments in Spanish: “Estoy siguiendo de cerca la colisión en el aire que ocurrió en DCA y rezo por las familias de los pasajeros. Estamos agradecidos por nuestro personal de emergencias y los socorristas que están respondiendo rápidamente a este horrible incidente.”
In another post on January 30, 2025, Espaillat addressed the loss of innocent lives due to the collision and criticized former President Donald Trump’s response: “Innocent lives have been lost and families are grieving. Instead of being the leader our nation needs at this moment, Trump is playing the blame game.”
