Adriano Espaillat calls for justice after Minneapolis tragedy and highlights Hispanic Caucus role

Adriano Espaillat, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, posted a series of tweets on January 8 and 9, 2026, addressing the recent deadly incident in Minneapolis and highlighting the role of the Hispanic Caucus in Congress.

On January 8, Espaillat wrote: “We demand accountability and justice following the deadly tragedy that occurred in Minneapolis and stand in solidarity with the family of Renee Nicole Good, Minnesotans, and all who have been negatively impacted by this senseless act of violence and chaos perpetuated by Trump’s” (January 8, 2026).

Later that day, he reiterated his message in Spanish: “Exigimos que se rindan cuentas y se haga justicia tras la trágica muerte ocurrida en Minneapolis y nos solidarizamos con la familia de Renee Nicole Good, con los habitantes de Minnesota y con todos aquellos que se han visto afectados negativamente por este acto de violencia y” (January 8, 2026).

On January 9, Espaillat highlighted the expertise of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus: “The @HispanicCaucus understands this hemisphere better than anyone in Congress, and we’re here to deliver results.” (January 9, 2026).

Espaillat has served as a member of Congress since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. Before his tenure in Washington D.C., he was a member of both the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College at City University of New York with a BA in 1978.
