Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district, announced on his Twitter account the postponement of a Black History Month event and commended local nurses and hospital leadership for ending a historic strike.
On February 21, 2026, Espaillat posted: “Due to unfavorable weather conditions, tomorrow’s Black History Month event has been postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.” The following day, he reiterated the message in Spanish: “Debido a las condiciones climáticas desfavorables, nuestro evento del Mes de la Historia Afroamericana de este domingo se ha pospuesto y se reprogramará para una fecha posterior. Lamentamos cualquier inconveniente que esto pueda causar y agradecemos su comprensión.”

Espaillat has served in Congress since 2017 after succeeding Charles Rangel. He previously held positions in both the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954, Espaillat is currently 68 years old and resides in Manhattan. He earned his BA from Queens College at City University of New York in 1978.
