Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, recently posted a series of tweets highlighting both an upcoming community event and a personal story related to immigration proceedings.

On February 12, 2026, Espaillat announced an annual celebration for Black History Month at Riverbank State Park. Later the same day, he followed up with another message encouraging attendance: “Confirme su asistencia: https://t.co/Bx0mJUeK5b”.

The following day, on February 13, Espaillat shared a personal account involving a local family affected by immigration enforcement. He tweeted, “I was fortunate to meet with Alejandro Barranco, a Marine veteran whose father, Narciso, had been beaten and detained by ICE. Yesterday, an immigration judge ruled that Narciso should not be deported, and we celebrated his family’s victory. https://t.co/PkbwELFxD9”.

Espaillat has been active in public service for decades. Before joining Congress in 2017 after succeeding Charles Rangel, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and in the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and now residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1978 with a BA.
