Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, posted a series of messages on his social media accounts addressing both religious observance and local infrastructure concerns.
On October 1, 2025, Espaillat extended wishes to those observing Yom Kippur, stating, “May this Yom Kippur be a time of reflection and renewal. I wish all who observe an easy and meaningful fast, and may you be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life—G’mar Chatima Tovah!” He reiterated this sentiment in Spanish the following day: “Que este Yom Kipur sea un momento de reflexión y renovación. Les deseo a todos los que observan un ayuno fácil y significativo, y que sean inscritos y sellados en el Libro de la Vida: ¡G’mar Chatima Tová!” (October 2, 2025).
In another post on October 2, 2025, Espaillat criticized actions by the Trump administration regarding public transportation funding: “La administración Trump está lanzando el ataque más descarado contra los neoyorquinos de clase trabajadora y los vecinos de Harlem al atacar la financiación del metro de la Segunda Avenida.”
Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th district in Congress since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and in the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College, City University of New York with a BA in 1978.
