Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, recently posted a series of tweets addressing issues of transparency and labor rights. On July 23, 2025, Espaillat wrote, “They knew all along. And they lied to you about it.” The same day, he reiterated his message in Spanish: “Ellos lo supieron desde el principio. Y te mintieron al respecto.”
On July 24, 2025, Espaillat voiced support for food service workers at the House of Representatives by stating: “I’m proud to stand with UNITE HERE Local 23 to demand full wages, support and benefits for our House food service workers.
As subcontractors come and go, these workers ensure food services for Members, staff and visitors to our campus, and they need our support now more than”
Espaillat has a long history in public service. Before entering Congress in 2017 as Charles Rangel’s successor, he served in the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
