Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district and a long-serving public official, posted several messages on January 6, 2026, addressing both cultural celebrations and political controversy.
In his first post of the day, Espaillat marked the religious holiday with a greeting to his constituents: “¡Feliz Día de los Tres Reyes Magos a todos los que lo celebran hoy en el NY-13 y en todo el país! El Día de los Reyes Magos es un hermoso recordatorio de fe, herencia y familia. ¡Agradecido de celebrar esta tradición con vecinos y líderes comunitarios esta mañana!” (January 6, 2026).
Later that day, Espaillat addressed recent statements from the White House regarding the events of January 6th. He wrote: “While the White House callously tries to blame @CapitolPolice for January 6th, @HouseDemocrats have been consistent in our efforts to honor the brave officers who fought and died for American democracy as a result of that dark day. It’s shameful the White House is trying to” (January 6, 2026).
He followed up with a similar message in Spanish: “Mientras la Casa Blanca intenta descaradamente culpar a la @CapitolPolice por los sucesos del 6 de Enero, los @HouseDemocrats hemos sido firmes en nuestros esfuerzos por honrar a los valientes agentes que lucharon y murieron por la democracia estadounidense a consecuencia de” (January 6, 2026).
Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th district in Congress since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and served in the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan, Espaillat graduated from Queens College at City University of New York with a BA in 1978.
