Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, posted a series of messages on April 14, 2026, addressing the rule of law and celebrating an event significant to the LGBTQ+ community.

In his first post at 12:59 UTC, Espaillat stated: “We recognize and respect the importance of the rule of law. Enforcement has a role, particularly for individuals who pose genuine threats to public safety. Shortly after, at 13:05 UTC, Espaillat commented on a development at a historic site: “La decisión de hoy de volver a izar la bandera del orgullo en los terrenos federales del Monumento Nacional Stonewall es una victoria para la comunidad LGBTQ+ y para nuestra nación. Seguiremos luchando y honrando a las personas valientes que encendieron un movimiento por la”.

At 13:07 UTC, he reiterated his earlier remarks in Spanish: “Reconocemos y respetamos la importancia del Estado de derecho. La aplicación de la ley desempeña un papel, particularmente en el caso de aquellas personas que representan una amenaza genuina para la seguridad pública. Pero lo que estamos presenciando hoy día va mucho más allá de”.

Espaillat succeeded Charles Rangel in Congress and previously served in both the New York State Assembly and Senate before joining the House of Representatives (source). Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and now residing in Manhattan, Espaillat holds a BA from Queens College, City University of New York.
