Adriano Espaillat addresses racism and urges community action on infrastructure issues

Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, addressed issues of racism and local infrastructure in a series of tweets posted on February 6, 2026.

In his first tweet, Espaillat commented on acts of racism and called for accountability from his colleagues. He wrote, “Una persona racista cometerá actos racistas independientemente del lugar donde viva. Hago un llamado a mis colegas republicanos para que denuncien este acto descaradamente racista.” (February 6, 2026).

Later that day, Espaillat shifted focus to community concerns regarding public infrastructure. In an English-language tweet, he encouraged residents to use the city’s reporting system for maintenance issues: “We encourage constituents to call 311 to report these conditions. Reports filed through 311 can also be shared with our office so we can follow up as needed. Under current regulations, maintenance of our bridges is the responsibility of the NYC Department of Transportation https://t.co/h1lx22dPNf” (February 6, 2026).

He reiterated this message in Spanish in a subsequent post: “Alentamos a los constituyentes a llamar al 311 para reportar estas situaciones. Los reportes realizados a través del 311 también se pueden compartir con nuestra oficina para que podamos darles seguimiento según sea necesario. Bajo las regulaciones vigentes, el mantenimiento de” (February 6, 2026).

Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since succeeding Charles Rangel in 2017 and previously served in both the New York State Assembly and Senate. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan, Espaillat graduated from Queens College, City University of New York in 1978.
