Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district and a Manhattan resident, posted updates on his social media accounts regarding a recent public health issue in Central Harlem and commemorated the anniversary of the El Paso mass shooting.
On August 2, 2025, Espaillat stated: “My office continues to monitor this issue and has been working closely with the NYC Health Department to investigate a community cluster of 30 cases of Legionnaires’ disease, including one death, in Central Harlem (ZIP codes 10027, 10030, 10035, 10037, and 10039).” He provided information for constituents seeking further assistance.
The following day, on August 3, Espaillat reiterated his message in Spanish: “Mi oficina continúa monitoreando esta situación de salud y ha estado trabajando estrechamente con el Departamento de Salud de NYC para investigar un brote comunitario de 30 casos de enfermedad del legionario, incluyendo una muerte, en Central Harlem (códigos postales 10027,”
Later that same day, Espaillat marked the sixth anniversary of the El Paso shooting with another post: “Six years ago, El Paso lost 23 innocent people in the deadliest attack against Latinos in modern American history. Today, we remember #ElPasoStrong and recommit to building a world free of gun violence and hate.”
Espaillat has served as U.S. Representative for New York’s 13th District since replacing Charles Rangel in 2017. Before his congressional tenure, he was a member of both the New York State Assembly and Senate. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and now residing in Manhattan, Espaillat graduated from Queens College at the City University of New York in 1978.
