Adriano Espaillat, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district, shared several important messages on May 12, 2025, through his social media platform. Espaillat has been in Congress since 2017 and previously served in the New York State Assembly and Senate. He was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and currently resides in Manhattan.

On May 12, 2025, Espaillat expressed gratitude to those who aided in the release of Edan Alexander, an Israeli-American hostage held for 19 months. He stated: “Gracias a todos los que contribuyeron a la liberación de Edan Alexander, el último rehén israelí-estadounidense, quien sufrió 19 meses de cautiverio. Acogemos a Edan y a su familia a su regreso y nos alegra saber que ha sido liberado y puesto en contacto con la Cruz Roja y que”.

Later that day, Espaillat highlighted Mental Health Awareness Month with a call to action: “May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This is a time to break the silence, challenge the stigma, and bring forward real solutions to help those who feel alone.”

Reiterating this message in Spanish later that evening, he emphasized the importance of addressing mental health issues: “Mayo es el Mes de la Concientización sobre la Salud Mental. Es un momento para romper el silencio, desafiar el estigma y proponer soluciones reales para ayudar a quienes se sienten solos.”

Adriano Espaillat has had an extensive political career since replacing Charles Rangel in Congress. He graduated from Queens College with a BA in 1978.
