Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing Hispanic Heritage Month and recent political developments involving New York Attorney General Letitia James.
On October 9, 2025, Espaillat thanked the governor of New York for recognizing Hispanic Heritage Month. In his post he stated: “Gracias, @GovKathyHochul, por reconocer el Mes de la Herencia Hispana y el impacto de las comunidades latinas en nuestro estado. Espero continuar nuestra lucha para garantizar protecciones y oportunidades para todos los que consideran a Nueva York su hogar.”
Later that day and into the next, Espaillat addressed news regarding the Trump administration and the state’s attorney general. On October 10, 2025, he wrote: “My statement on the Trump administration’s indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James https://t.co/voeILVVSsp”. He also published a similar message in Spanish: “Mi declaración sobre la acusación de la administración Trump contra la fiscal general de Nueva York, Letitia James”.
Espaillat has been active in public service for decades. Before joining Congress in 2017 to succeed Charles Rangel, he served in both the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat is an alumnus of Queens College at City University of New York (CUNY), where he earned his BA in 1978.
