Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, has recently addressed several issues on his social media account, including immigration enforcement in healthcare settings, political manipulation of redistricting data, and the anniversary of the Social Security Act.
On August 13, 2025, Espaillat posted about concerns over immigration enforcement at medical facilities: “A patient seeking medical care should never have to worry about ICE being called on them, but because of Trump’s gestapo propaganda, here we are. I introduced the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act— so that no one should be in fear when seeking medical attention or lifesaving” (August 13, 2025).
Later that day, he commented on efforts by former President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers regarding redistricting: “Donald Trump and extreme Republicans are once again trying to manipulate the data in their favor, for political purposes, and to undermine the sentiments of the American people. This unprecedented change and his push for mid-decade redistricting are proof that he will stop at” (August 13, 2025).
On August 14, Espaillat recognized a significant historical milestone: “Today marks 90 years since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law, guaranteeing seniors can retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work. This program also protects our veterans and children and ensures beneficiaries can pay rent, buy” (August 14, 2025).
Espaillat has represented New York’s 13th District in Congress since succeeding Charles Rangel in 2017. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of both the New York State Assembly from 1997 to 2010 and the New York State Senate from 2011 to 2016. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and now residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat graduated from Queens College (City University of New York) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1978.
