Adriano Espaillat, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 13th district since 2017, addressed recent events and initiatives in a series of posts on social media between August 27 and August 28, 2025.

On August 27, Espaillat responded to a tragic incident at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis. He wrote, “Our hearts break for the students, families, and parishioners who have been impacted by today’s tragedy at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis. We owe it to all of our students to address the horrific gun violence that continues to impact communities around our nation. These” (August 27, 2025).

Later that day, Espaillat announced his involvement in expanding transit options for New Yorkers. In collaboration with Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, he posted: “I am proud to lead this charge to establish new ferry service to New Jersey from 125th street in West Harlem alongside @MBPMarkLevine. Common sense solution to ensuring equitable transit options for New Yorkers in the 21st century. Let’s do this!” (August 27, 2025).

The following morning, Espaillat commented on another act of violence affecting his community: “Robin Wright was killed by a senseless act of violence, an innocent bystander in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now a family and community are grieving. Far too many families have been touched by gun violence, and we must act now to make our streets safer before the next” (August 28, 2025).

Espaillat has held office as representative for New York’s 13th District since replacing Charles Rangel in Congress in 2017. Prior to serving in Congress, he represented constituents as a member of the New York State Assembly from 1997 through 2010 and then as a State Senator from 2011 until his election to Congress. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1954 and currently residing in Manhattan at age 68, Espaillat is also an alumnus of Queens College of the City University of New York.
