With the unofficial second half of the baseball season underway, the latest Hitter Power Rankings have undergone significant changes. While Aaron Judge retains his top position, other players have shifted in rank, with new names appearing and notable movements among returning players.
The rankings are determined by a formula from MLB.com’s data team that evaluates recent performance, season-long performance, and performance over the past year. The first two categories are given more weight.
Aaron Judge of the Yankees continues to lead baseball in several categories including batting average and slugging percentage. “Judge remains atop these rankings after reclaiming the top spot the last time around,” it was noted. He is on track to achieve back-to-back seasons with a .700 slugging percentage or better.
Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers has moved up two spots due to a home run streak. “Ohtani jumps two spots in the rankings thanks to a home run binge,” as stated in the release. Cal Raleigh from the Mariners maintains his third place after leading with 39 homers this season.
Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies has made a significant leap from ninth to fourth place due to his recent performance. Eugenio Suárez of the D-backs enters at fifth place following an impressive series of home runs.
Other notable entries include José RamÃrez from the Guardians, Byron Buxton from the Twins, Ronald Acuña Jr. from the Braves, Will Smith from the Dodgers, and Juan Soto from the Mets who experienced a drop in ranking.
Honorable mentions include Randy Arozarena (Mariners), Michael Busch (Cubs), Kyle Stowers (Marlins), Corey Seager (Rangers), George Springer (Blue Jays), Nick Kurtz (A’s), Jose Altuve (Astros), Willy Adames (Giants), Bobby Witt Jr. (Royals).
