Shohei Ohtani has reached the top spot in the latest MLB Hitter Power Rankings, marking his first time leading this list this season. The rankings, compiled by MLB.com’s data team, are determined by recent performance, season-long results, and statistics from the past year.
Ohtani’s rise comes after a strong stretch in which he posted a .366 batting average with five home runs. He currently leads Major League Baseball in total bases and runs scored, putting him on track for one of the highest single-season run totals in decades.
Kyle Schwarber of the Phillies dropped to second place after leading previously. Despite a recent dip in batting average and on-base percentage since early August, Schwarber continues to lead all players with 109 RBIs and recently hit his 45th home run of the season.
Nick Kurtz from the Athletics remains third after consistent hitting performances. He has been especially effective following a four-home-run game last month and ranks among league leaders in several offensive categories for rookies.
Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees held steady at fourth place. After returning from an injury that kept him out for ten games, Judge has played as designated hitter over 12 games with three home runs and seven RBIs. His slugging percentage dropped compared to earlier this season but still reflects high production levels. “The fact that represents a 211-point drop in his slugging percentage from before his brief IL stint speaks more to how outrageous Judge’s numbers were this season than any great struggles over the past two weeks. Judge also seems to be heating up, homering in three of his past six games to reach 40 for the fourth time in his career.”
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who was not ranked previously, moved into fifth despite dealing with a hamstring injury considered minor according to recent MRI results. Before being sidelined, Guerrero had improved significantly at bat since the All-Star break.
Other notable players include Cal Raleigh (Mariners), Julio RodrÃguez (Mariners), José RamÃrez (Guardians), Ramón Laureano (Padres), and Bryce Harper (Phillies). Several players received honorable mentions for their recent contributions.
