Aaron Judge delivered a standout performance on March 10 during Team USA’s game against Mexico at the World Baseball Classic, helping secure a 5-3 win at Daikin Park in Houston.
The matchup between the two undefeated teams was one of the most anticipated games of pool play. Judge, serving as captain for the United States, made a significant impact both defensively and offensively in the third inning. He threw out Joey Ortiz at third base with a strong throw from right field and then hit an opposite-field home run to open the scoring for Team USA.
“It’s playoff baseball — in March,” Judge told FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal after the game. He added, “I love it. The fans came with it today. This was a fun atmosphere. An exciting atmosphere. The boys were ready to go.”
Judge’s home run sparked a five-run inning for Team USA, which included a three-run homer by Roman Anthony that extended their lead. His defensive play earlier in the inning helped keep the game scoreless and shifted momentum back to his team after Mexico had executed a strong relay to prevent a run in the previous frame.
Statcast tracked Judge’s throw from right field at 91.8 miles per hour, addressing concerns about his arm strength following elbow issues last season.
The result positions Team USA strongly within Pool B as they continue their campaign in the World Baseball Classic.
