QUEENS, NY – The Queens Borough Board, led by Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., is set to convene on Monday, May 6, at 5:30 p.m. The focus of the meeting will be a presentation from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) regarding Phase 2 of the Willets Point redevelopment project. This phase aims to introduce various amenities to the Willets Point neighborhood, including affordable housing, open space, neighborhood-serving retail, a 250-room hotel, and New York City’s first soccer-specific stadium.

According to the announcement, the presentation will outline the business terms of a ground lease essential for the construction of the project. Following the presentation, the Borough Board will conduct a vote on the approval of the lease agreement, as mandated by the New York City Charter.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Borough President’s second-floor conference room in Queens Borough Hall, situated at 120-55 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens. For public viewing, the meeting will be live-streamed on the Borough President’s website at www.queensbp.org and on the Borough President’s YouTube page.

Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming vote on the lease agreement, emphasizing the significance of the project for the Willets Point neighborhood. Additionally, Mikel Adgate, Senior Vice President of Government & Community Relations at EDC, will be present to provide insights during the presentation.

The Borough Board, comprising City Council members and Community Board chairpersons, plays a vital role in addressing issues related to land use, development, public policy, budget, and other matters with potential borough-wide implications. The board regularly engages in the land use review process and is responsible for voting on significant land use questions that impact multiple Community Board Districts.
